The Youth Employment Service (YES) is a free
employment service designed to help young people find employment. A
group of volunteers from the Y.W.C.A. of North Orange County began
this community service in 1964. From the very beginning, they were
dedicated to helping youth find employment without regard to ethnic,
racial background, sex, or income.
To date, YES has serviced over 18,000 youths in the
Orange County area. Examples of jobs we refer youths to be in:
retail, food service, restaurants, hotels, cities, small businesses,
medical offices, and local households. As a result of our success
the YES has received four Disneyland Community Service Awards.
80% of youths who attend YES come from homes that
are 200% below the poverty line, where the annual household income
ranges from low to extremely low. Many youths attend YES to find
employment in order to help their families pay rent, buy food, and
other necessities. Most of the money they earn is spent within the
local community. |
